Your questions, answered

Answers to a few key questions that will make your donor experience a better one

Select one of our philanthropic campaign’s four priorities.

Dedicated funds have been set up for each of the four pillars; your donation will be allocated to one of these funds.

Using our platform, you can direct your donation towards a specific priority or fund.

1. Enhance the student experience and develop their full potential

Contribute to scholarships, to open the doors of academic excellence at UdeM to all.

2. Create, discover and innovate for the common good.

Direct your donation towards innovative projects, reinforcing UdeM’s role as a knowledge incubator.

3. Ensure the health of the planet, our animals and all humans

Support sustainable development and public health initiatives, for a direct impact on the well-being of the community, and of the environment.

4. Build stronger communities.

Allocate your donation to programs that fight inequality and promote education in disadvantaged communities.

You can donate to Brave the way from anywhere in the world!

1. If you live in the United States

American residents can qualify for a tax deduction for their donations. UdeM is certified by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c) 3 charitable organization (EIN: 23-7172320).

UdeM accepts most payment methods, with the exception of cash.

1. Credit card

Make credit card payments:

  • using our online donation form
  • by mail, or in person
2. Cheque

Make your payment with a cheque: it’s a fast and easy way to contribute to the Université’s development.

  • Make your cheque payable to the Université de Montréal – Alumni and Donor Community.
  • If applicable, specify the program or area to which you want to donate.
  • Mail your cheque or drop it off in person.
3. Pre-authorized payment

This option allows you to spread your donation throughout the year and to set the frequency of automatic withdrawals  from your bank account.

To use this payment method, please fill out your bank’s pre-authorized debit form. Remember to include a void cheque.

Submit the completed form and void cheque by mail, or  visit our offices in person.

4. Donation of publicly traded securities

Donating publicly traded securities can significantly increase the amount and impact of your donation without costing you more. Doing so also has the advantage of being easy, tax-smart, effective, profitable, flexible, and of recognizing the donor.

More information about this type of donation can be found in the following tab.

5. Payroll or pension deductions for UdeM employees

For UdeM employees and retirees, we offer payroll or pension deductions. You can specify the deductible amount with each payroll cycle or pension disbursement. You will qualify for annual tax credits equal to the amount of your donation. To take advantage of this option, please print and fill out the form (in French only) provided for this purpose and send it to us via internal or regular mail, or drop it off in person.

Depending on the type and amount of your donation, you may be entitled to several tax benefits.

1. Tax credits

Qualify for donation tax credits, in accordance with tax laws.

2. Annual tax receipts

Get a tax receipt for your donations, making it easier to file your tax return.
